- Content of this tool
This tool helps you understand avoidance and gradually face your fears through exposure. It consists of six parts:
- Intro
You learn what exposure is, how fear works, and why avoidance makes anxiety worse. You are introduced to how exposure can help you overcome anxiety step by step.
- Avoidance
You explore how avoidance and safety behaviours keep anxiety going, and how thoughts are affected when you try to escape fear instead of facing it.
- Planning
You prepare for exposure by identifying fears, building an exposure hierarchy, and making a concrete plan for your first steps.
- Exposure
You practice exposure in real situations, repeat the exercises, and learn to follow the plan even when fear is strong.
- Challenges
You get strategies for handling common obstacles such as feeling overwhelmed, lack of time, or difficulties with social support.
- Moving forward
You look back at what you have achieved, reflect on setbacks, and create a plan to prevent relapse and maintain long-term change.
